how can you call an adult "down to earth" when he is trying to get you to worship his imaginary friend?

I figured it wouldn't be long before someone brought some negative angle into this. I know you are making a general statement but I don't appreciate any kind of insinuation... When I built my car I restored it so that people could sit in the car and actually get close...Kids are our world, and they need some positive things in their lives. From my web site Herbie even sends out autographs for the kids for free.
How about focusing on the positive things in life for a change?

If you want to help 'kids' get a police check and become a big brother or boyscout leader. Painting up a cheesy-assed replica of a car from a disney movie is not helping kids.

The only Herbie movie I remember is the first one with Dean Jones..it was amusing at the time and a hit if I remember correctly. Like anything else overexposure can kill a product, like disco or copycat TV shows and poorly made sequel movies.

You probably see some of this in the I hate Herbie crowd. The car belongs in the imagination provided us by Disney and not in the real world.

I for one kind of like Herbie.
When i first saw it, i liked it because it was a VW bug, and my dad had a bug, so it was the definition of cool.
That being said, I think if someone wants to dress up their bug like herbie, they're a wannabe goon. Laughing

Agreed. They actually destroyed several different years of ragtops. I believe the opening scene of the first movie shows a dash with no fuel gauge...pre-61!!! Bastards!

Only thing I have to say regarding this is that, at least with the original movies made between 1969 and 1980, VWs were considered disposable as hell. Ragtops, Ovals, whatever, they were everywhere. No one ever thought these cars would ever be collectible.

As far as the new movie is concerned, I don't know how many cars they used, but it's been covered ad nauseum that the ones they wrecked were cars no one wanted anyway. Feel free to check in with Randy Carlson, as I think he was involved with sourcing cars. (oldbug.com).

I refuse to judge others based on their religious persuasions, despite my own inclinations. Just as I don't like people imposing their beliefs on me forcefully, I also don't care for people pigeonholing others for their beliefs. Weren't you earlier in this thread making a comment about people stereotyping VW owners based on the "hippie" stigma or the Herbie movies?

38 cars were used, 6 were Destoryed(wrecked in the filming, 4 were junk and cut to use as process cars...( cars 22R 23R aquired from rent to wreck) yes about 9 were junk, rusted etc to start with also.Randy Knows me, and he knows that I do know.. 5 are still with disney (burbank, and will be in their new archive building, under constuction), 2 in Texas (I put them there), three in chicago (I put them there), three in van nuys, two in disney florida, 1 in euro disney, 11 with me...and have been placed in private hands, these 11 were to be destoryed , and not to be placed in public hand as they were highly modified, and for insurance reasons, there ya go.. thats why they came to me, and were saved from the crusher..

sure it is. you are generalizing about anyone with faith in a god. the god being "imaginary" and the person believing being a kook.

also,
i can't believe this hasn;t been moved to the rants yet! Twisted Evil

and i was looking through my albums for the pic. so does anyone know what year this is?
i guess its a poser having no sunroof at least.
as you can see from the pic, kids couldn't give half a shit about "correct". and to tell you the truth , neither could I. but to each their own.

my comment that you quoted above is not based on any generalization or stereotype.

It seemed to imply something else, but maybe that's just how I'm reading into it. Somehow I doubt it, though.

And 90Volts, the moment this is moved to the Rants is the moment that it stops being a productive "discussion." I don't think there's been any comments yet that would warrant a move like that, though, IMO.

Why do you hate Herbie? This version might add fuel to the fire:
